Edge-to-edge, full-color designs dyed into polyester for sportswear, activewear and statement fashion.

Dye sublimation uses heat to turn special inks into a gas that bonds with polyester fibers, so the design becomes part of the fabric rather than a layer on top. The result is a print with no feel at all, colors that will not crack, peel, or fade with washing, and the freedom to cover a garment edge to edge with full-color artwork. Sublimation printing services are the go-to method for all-over print apparel, team kits, and vibrant performance wear.
MAKEWELL APPAREL uses sublimation for sports jerseys, activewear, leggings, tank tops, towels, face masks, and all-over print t-shirts and hoodies. Compare methods in our printing methods guide.
Your design is printed onto transfer paper with sublimation inks. The paper is placed against white or light polyester fabric and pressed under heat and pressure, turning the ink into a gas that permanently dyes the fibers. For all-over garments, fabric panels are often printed before cutting and sewing, a method called cut-and-sew sublimation, which allows seamless designs that wrap around seams and sleeves.
Because each panel is printed digitally, there are no color limits and no screen setup, and every piece can carry unique names and numbers.
Sublimation only works on polyester or high-polyester blends, and on white or light-colored fabric, because the dye cannot print white and needs polyester fibers to bond with. Performance knits, mesh, interlock, spandex blends, and microfiber all sublimate beautifully, which makes the method perfect for sportswear and activewear.
For cotton garments or dark fabrics, choose DTF printing, DTG printing, or screen printing instead.
All-over prints cover the entire garment with patterns, photography, camouflage, gradients, or illustrations. With cut-and-sew sublimation, our cut and sew team prints each panel to exact pattern shapes, then sews the garment so designs align across seams. This produces professional results with no white creases or unprinted areas.
All-over designs are popular for streetwear statement pieces, festival wear, swim and resort styles, and fan merchandise.
Sublimation is the standard for team uniforms because it handles club colors, sponsor logos, names, and numbers in one permanent print that will not weigh down performance fabrics. We produce soccer, basketball, cycling, running, esports, and fitness kits, with moisture-wicking fabrics and coordinated shorts and socks.
Supply high-resolution artwork at 150 to 300 DPI at full print size, in RGB or CMYK, with designs extended beyond seam lines so nothing is lost when panels are sewn. We provide pattern templates for all-over designs and send digital mock-ups showing how the print sits on each size.
Because the ink becomes part of the fiber, sublimated prints have zero hand feel, stay breathable, and do not crack, peel, or wash out. They are highly resistant to fading from washing. Very long sun exposure can gradually fade any printed fabric, so care instructions recommend washing cold and drying in shade.
Sublimated garments start from 50 pieces per design, with names and numbers personalized within the order. Samples usually take 7 to 10 business days, and bulk production typically takes 2 to 4 weeks after approval, depending on complexity. Explore all apparel manufacturing services.
All-over designs give you the whole garment as a canvas, but a few principles make them look professional. Patterns should be seamless or carefully aligned across seams, so the design flows from front panels to sleeves and side seams without awkward breaks. Important elements such as logos, faces, and text should sit away from seams, underarms, and hems, where fabric folds or is cut. Large areas of solid color look best when slightly textured, because tiny variations in fabric stretch can be visible on flat tones.
We provide pattern templates for each garment and size, showing safe zones and bleed areas, and our team checks your files before production. For team kits, we set up name and number variables so each player’s details print in the correct place. Digital mock-ups let you see the finished look on every size before we print any fabric.
Sublimation is a natural partner for performance fabrics because the print adds no weight and does not block breathability. Moisture-wicking polyester, four-way stretch polyester-spandex, and mesh panels all accept vivid, durable prints, which is why sublimation is widely used for leggings, sports bras, cycling and running kits, rash guards, and swimwear made from polyester blends.
When fabric stretches, printed colors can lighten slightly at the point of maximum stretch, so we test prints on stretched fabric during sampling and adjust colors where needed. Combined with flatlock seams and performance fabrics from our fabric selection range, sublimation lets activewear brands create bold, distinctive collections.
Beyond clothing, sublimation decorates polyester products such as microfiber towels, face masks, neck gaiters, bandanas, flags, pillow covers, and lanyards. These items are popular for events, gift shops, and promotions because they carry full-color artwork at an accessible price and remain vibrant after washing.
We can produce matching apparel and accessories from the same artwork, so a festival, club, or brand campaign has a coordinated range of products, all printed with consistent colors and delivered together.
Sublimation quality depends on precise temperature, time, and pressure, as well as accurate color management. We calibrate printers and presses, check transfer alignment on each panel, and inspect for ghosting, color shifts, and white creases. For cut-and-sew sublimation, panels are matched before sewing so patterns align across seams.
Finished garments are checked for measurements, seam quality, print alignment, and name and number accuracy for team orders. Approved color settings and templates are stored, so reorders and additional players’ kits match the original order.

Cut-and-sew sublimation prints fabric panels before they are sewn together, so designs cover the entire garment and align across seams without white areas.
White creases happen when finished garments are pressed and fabric folds block the dye. Cut-and-sew sublimation avoids this by printing flat panels before sewing.
No. Sublimation needs light polyester fabric. For dark garments, choose DTF or screen printing instead.
Yes. Because it is digital with no setup per color, sublimation works well for small runs, personalized kits, and many design variations.
